Chiswick RNLI had a popular stall at the Chiswick House Dog Show this year. A highlight was an RNLI branded doggie lifejacket which was modelled by a number of visting dogs.
Chiswick RNLI supporter Nikhil Sehmi has raised £10,000 for the RNLI in sponsorship on a 1,000 mile cycle ride from Land’s End to John O’Groats. Nikhil and his friend Peter completed the ride in 12 days of tough cycling ending on 8 September.
The start of 2014 has been exceptionally busy with 24 incidents and 20 people rescued in the first 4 weeks. The incidents involved rowers capsizing and getting into difficulties as well as individuals accidentally or deliberately ending up in the river. Exceptionally strong currents resulting from heavy rain in recent weeks may have been a contributory factor in some incidents. The graph shows 24 incidents in week 4 compared to 14 at the same time last year.
After spotting some ducks, Hashi, a Portuguese water dog, jumped over the river wall in Fulham and was badly injured when she landed on the foreshore, over five metres below. After an initial assessment Hashi was carefully transferred into the lifeboat’s basket stretcher for transfer as access at the scene was difficult. They constantly monitored her during the trip back to Chiswick Pier where she was transferred to the pet ambulance
Chiswick Lifeboat crew rescued a man who had fallen into the river on Monday evening 2 June. After 30 minutes in the water he was tired and cold and only just managing to hold onto an oar held by a passer-by on the river bank.
The RNLI lifeboat crew from Chiswick were launched to the rescue after a narrow boat collided with a houseboat moored at Dove pier in Hammersmith .
